Baby has passed lots of meconium poos, emptying out his gastro-intestinal tract, and his stomach capacity is gradually increasing in size in preparation for milk feeds. Around Day 2-3, baby often wants to feed more frequently, maybe 1-2 hourly. So, babies tend to feel fuller longer and therefore need slightly fewer feedings. All of a sudden, your little one discovers that he's no longer back in the warmth and comfort – though a bit crowded – womb where he has spent the last 9 months – and it is SCARY out here! 2-8 Week Old Newborn, Formula Feeding This schedule recommends longer naps and fewer feedings than the breastfeeding schedule above, simply because formula is more difficult for baby to digest.
